#08Adaptability
Adaptability is a designed capability, not an improvised reaction.
by Ilario Tornese · Certified Innovation Manager (UNI 11814)

The principle
Adaptability is the ability to reconfigure structures, processes, skills and resources when the context changes. It isn’t improvisation: it is an organization designed to be able to change.
The most common mistake
Everything is optimized for yesterday’s efficiency. Processes and organization charts become untouchable because they worked, even when the conditions that justified them no longer exist.
How to recognize it
Slow reactions to external shocks. Resources that can’t be shifted toward new opportunities. A company that learns slowly and, when it finally changes, does so under pressure.
Where to start
Identify the two or three processes that would be hardest to change quickly today, and ask why. The constraint is often not technical but organizational.
Adaptability is a designed capability, not an improvised reaction.
